One of the first things taught in any kind of self defense or firearm class is to be aware of your surroundings. If you can't recognize a threat you can't possibly defend yourself.

It may have been covered already, but there are times you simply can't be 100% aware of your surroundings. In this case, 2 were doing their jobs and focused on it and 1 was focused on the interviewer.

There are a million reasons why you'd not always be aware of a problem coming down, especially in the work place and if you're first on the list to be shot/stabbed/blown up.

However, from a gun/rifle behind every blade of grass point of view - things can be diffused quicker - in theory. The problem is, our legal/court system is so screwed up, a "hero" will be run through the ringer and broke by the end of it - in a lot of cases.
