This guy has been around for 6 years. He has been on a ton of jobs all over the world.

Meanwhile, I have studied, learned, and fixed a whole bunch of problems on this crane, and have earned the respect of the entire crew on this boat.

I edited out your post to focus on two things.

He's been there for a good minute.
Be careful how you approach things. He just might have been a clutch player in some high ranking contracts.

Keep up the good work. Keep gaining respect, but humble yourself.
Your knowledge will keep you as a key player, just don't forget that you'll need to be a team player while you build tenure.

OP...be careful with your battles. Make sure you know who will truly go to bat for you when it comes time. 6 years is a lot of loyalty to beat. And this industry is much smaller than you think.

We got a guy here now like that who doesn't have a clue what is going on with his own deals. All he does is send emails to try to get others to do his work and take vacations. It is unbelievable.
