I miss working in an environment that had women customers, I do not however miss working with women. All of the freaking gossip.

Then last month, a bunch of my co-workers came out to the boat to do the 5-year inspection on the crane. All my guys got an earful from the vessel folks about making sure domino dude never came back, cuz they don't like him.. and how much they genuinely appreciate my presence, support, attentiveness to their needs, etc..... I didn't have to do a thing except sit back and let it unfold.

Of course all that made it back to the office, and then to top it off, he chose to make some excuse for not being able to make his scheduled return to the vessel.

So, they fired him. End of story.

    Now that's awesome. Congratulations.

Well, in a nutshell, that company that I tried and finally succeeded to get into is not all I expected. Except for the money. That part has been great. We are a North American division of a Dutch company that is HUGE. Our little satellite portion of the whole thing is fairly dysfunctional to say the least.

My emails and calls for support either go unanswered for days, and in general when they do get answered they are the Prime Ministers of missing the fucking point, and I am sure you've figured out by now that I can be very precise and clear about the point I am trying to convey.

Don't even get me started about the conversation I had with the drunk Dutch tech support guy who ended up asking me if I knew how to read, and told me not to call him on the day before Christmas Eve for him to teach me how to read technical info, LOL....

No matter though. I can and will stick it out and have learned a whole new skill set and am making tons of contacts in the offshore wold with major players and contractors. And when things get great again in the next 2 years or whenever, I will be worth big time bucks to one of them.

    All part of my plan.

Anyway I am home now and all that bullshit seems like old news. Dude showed up, I did my handover walkaround with him and stayed professional about it, and was on my way.

Hush up, junior. You're completely out of your element with this grown up speak.

You will be seen as the dependable, hard working person and he will (eventually) single himself out as the lazy fuckup. Play the long game, not the short.
I generally agree with this - it's usually best to not make waves and just keep doing what you are doing, learning and working extra shifts/shit detail and keep a good "can do" attitude. Sooner or later someone will realize that you walk the walk while the other guy bullshits and makes excuses and you'll get promoted.

However, there are times when throwing someone under the bus is called for. You really need to be careful when considering this; a plan like this means knowing the political landscape and having a good idea of how it is all going to play out before you lay that card. If you don't know these things you might be surprised to find out that the guy has friends in high places - tossing him under the bus might later get you tossed out on your ass in retaliation.
