Personally, I do not feel too bad for him either and also agree we should not use any force to extract him. (Does not mean I don't think we should not work towards it, but no trades or anything) I was a dumbass 21 y/o once too, but I damned sure would not have gone to NK and then tried to mess with them on top of it.

Against the US as a whole, we can smoosh them. Any single person is going to be in a world of hurt if you're there as an average joe and they want to F with you. This is reality setting in on one (probably) self centered kid.

North Korea disagrees. They actually have an interesting list of things that will get you a mandatory sentence and it's shorter than ours. Fucking with state propaganda? High on that list.

If you tell someone "Hey, if you do that, it'll cost you 15 years if you're caught", then you decided to do it because you don't think you'll get caught and end up getting 15 years, are you not the one who decided the punishment was fitting of the crime once you got caught?
