In stock form those trucks were turds. It was because the heads were shit on those 454s. In 1989 my stepdad ordered an extended cab Silverado with a 350 and 3.73 gears and it would just barely squeak out a win on those trucks. I raced many of them.

When I went to Texas A&M, there was a bubba down there with what looked like a stock 454SS truck. It had an aluminum tall deck 540" Reher-Morrison in it with a big roller, Dart heads, and an 1150 Dominator. His family was big into Super Comp bracket racing so it was just a bunch of spare parts they laying around. It wasn't the fastest thing out there but it sure was cool. And it sounded real nasty.

I just put a bigger cam in a 95 lightning longblock and dropped it in my 69. It should be a torque monster.

My best friend had a Dodge Dakota RT. That truck was a blast to drive. Too bad it looked like a skunk after 5 years and I think he lost a cylinder at one point. He did have probably 200k on it though. They still look decent in my opinion if taken care of.

Its a shame Pontiac never got the chance to release the G8 ST (Holden Ute SS)...it would've been a deep 13 second modern El Camino with Pontiac G8 styling. GM should have built that thing.
