In the same boat here, not only do I not have kids, but I don't even like kids.

The amount of property taxes collected by school districts was reduced as part of the $1 tax on cigarettes deal. Essentially the state said they would make just as much money from the cigarette tax and that would be sent to the schools.

I have $1 that says the cig tax funds have been diverted. I have another $1 that says they will try to raise ISD taxes back to where they were and keep the $1 cig tax in place.

Anyone who says we should just raise taxes is missing the point here. Handing the goverment more money won't fix any of this shit. Demanding that government spend what it is given wisely is more important. Government shouldn't run to us everytime there is a budget problem, it ruins the private economy.

Because we all know how important THAT is....

Cutting football programs is shooting yourself in the foot. That's a lot of revenue. There has been wasteful spending for decades. This news isn't exactly groundbreaking. Everyone saw it coming. If the govt has proven anything, it's that it can't run anything lean, or efficient.
Interesting side note and someone who knows more may be able to chime in.

It is my understanding that the way the Robin Hood plan works is that school districts that rake in tons of money from property taxes, Southlake for example, have to send excess amounts (not sure how that is calculated) to the state for redistribution. Capital projects are excluded from that calculation as to what is excessive. So when you see giant stadiums and nice new buildings, in the eyes of the school district, that represents money that would have been sent to Austin to educate illegal aliens in South Texas.

I can't wait to see what kind of increased tax proposals they come out with next. Don't worry the tax payers will come to the rescue once again, just like we always do. Don't worry about the fact the you work hard for what you have/earn, just suck it up and keep paying more taxes for the good of the State. Here's an idea, maybe the State of Texas could actually try being more frugal in it's spending. Wow, what a concept.

Agreed.... I for one am tired of seeing "band-aids" placed on this stuff.

The boys\girls in Austin need to figure this stuff out. I'm sure that if they can't we can find those who can. I'm tired of our State\Federal Gov throwing money at EVERYTHING to maintain the status quo and changing next to nothing to solve the actual issues.

Don't tell me public school is worth a $hit either. I went to a "Blue Ribbon" nationally recgonized school, and passed without ever doing a single homework assignment because the tests were so friggin easy to ace.

It makes me sick to my stomach to pay my property taxes knowing how wasted the money is in public schools.

This isn't to knock you. From what I understand you are a teacher for the handicapped kids, and that is admirable and would be welcomed at any private school; but just like a failed company going under, good people get hurt.

    Such is life. I'm afraid.

Take into consideration that every home paid less, that's a loot of moolah.
