How about cutting the football coaches 100k salary and superintendents 250k salary?

Can't spend what we don't have.

I feel for those who are in danger of losing their jobs, I really do, but there seems to be (I'm no expert) a lot of fat in the public school system. It is absolutely important, but it shouldn't be above cuts. Schools have gotten used to spending a certain amount, but it doesn't mean they need all of that money.

I would have cut entitlement programs first but that's just me.

That is EXACTLY what we've been sitting here talking about all morning. If ever there was a time to use it, THIS is it.

It's true. My mom has been teaching in private schools for 34 years (same one for 29) and JUST hit $48,000 on base (she is also department head so she gets a small stipend on top of that), but a cousin of mine fresh out of school is making the same $48,000 to teach 6th grade in a Ft. Worth public school. Of course my mom will have a job next year, the cousin may not...

Looks like its time to pay the piper....

I have no comparison, but isn't 44% of an entire state budget kind of high?
    What about infrastructure?

I agree. They need a safe place to play ball. Not a scale model of The Death Star.

New Stadium in Allen ISD was a cool $65 million or so. You should look at the cost of the new Prosper High School. Fuck, go look at the building! It's absurd! Though I understand some of it was private funding, the old high school was only around 5 years old and now sits empty.

Cutting football programs is shooting yourself in the foot. That's a lot of revenue. There has been wasteful spending for decades. This news isn't exactly groundbreaking. Everyone saw it coming. If the govt has proven anything, it's that it can't run anything lean, or efficient.
