I would've liked to see the guy get help, instead of winding up in prison and then dead. But the time for that would have been in what... 2006? According to that timeline.

Just a guess that he did it so that his girlfriend and his child get some life insurance proceeds. Being his case was under appeal, it will be thrown out of the system since he is dead. So "technically" he will be innocent, in the eyes of a court.

The appeal will likely be thrown out. He was still convicted. The court won't "technically" do shit or change their mind. They might reverse in absentia, but someone still has to be pressing/paying the bill. It's pointless.

And appeal doesn't equate to automatically overturned. Everyone appeals in hopes that they can find something to get them off.

Read up on Duane Buck. He appealed his ass off. Still guilty, still rotting in jail, but likely off death row.

Man throws away life that includes a family and a career in the NFL: tragic.
Daughter grows up without her father (because he's serving life in prison, or he's dead): tragic.

Murderer kills himself in prison after serving only a few years of a life sentence: not tragic.

Generally if you commit suicide there will be no pay out of life insurance. Also once you are fingerprinted for said crime it is on your record until you get it expunged if you win your court case. There just won't be a disposition I think on the CCH side.

They have said that in that state the law is that if you have not finalized the appeals process and become deceased, the record is completely expunged.

Thats only the case if the suicide is within two years of the policy being issued.
