I think some are trying to establish a "pecking order".

They are doomed to fail if so. Outside of site owners, administrators, or moderators, there is no pecking order among the rank and file members of a internet forum. I suppose if someone has weak verbal skills they might be at a disadvantage and get pecked on, but if so it's all make-believe on the part of those doing the pecking if they think that's any indication of having any kind of e-superiority over anyone else.
