My wife and I bought a 2017 Rouge SV yesterday.

Stay the bell away from any 2013 or newer: ford escape, Ford focus, Ford fiesta, Ford fusion.

To.give more specific advice stay away from any 4 cylinder "American" branded front wheel drive vehicles. (Actually dodge and Chrysler I'll give an exemption, though I'd still never drive or recommend one)


Their electronics system is so sensitive that you are under the dealers thumb when a gremlin such as your doors won't close because the door lock assembly triggers all doors to unlatch

Fleet vehicle 2013 fiesta, 45k miles. Transmission serviced and flashed 4x, transmission replaced twice. Received legal notice of class action lawsuit against Ford for dual clutch transmission

2013 focus, same thing, 2x transmission replaced, drivers side c.v. axle replaced twice, electronic power steering motor replaced twice, notice of settlement received in mail

Mother in laws 1.6 2013 escape, popping noise heard under cold start condition, coolant runs low. Ford issued a Tsb for head gasket for known issue. Not a recall item and vehicle is out of warranty. Vehicle has received 2 new engine harness for gauge cluster failure, and my touch radio failure.

I could create a list very similar to this with any Chevrolet 2.4 motor made from 2010-2014. Especially terrain and equinox. Mechanical design of pcv valve can fail and cause complete engine failure. 2010 and early 2011 models received defective timing chain known to destroy the motor at around 60k miles. Also failure prone timing solenoids need replacement almost once a year
