I hate paper at work, so IMO, no - but last time I did this I was remote so hard copy wasn't an option. If HR wants a hard copy for a file they can print it themselves.

that's kind of what I was thinking too. any value in hand delivering printed copies of the letter to HR and leaving one on his desk?

I'd try reaching him a few more times throughout the day. If it gets past 3pm or so I'd leave him a voicemail detailing the plan and then go ahead and send the letter.

I called his work phone earlier but didn't get an answer. waiting to get his personal number from a coworker and will try again, as I don't want to blindside him with this when he returns.
good idea on copying myself on it, didn't think about that.

I would talk to him first, and let him know that as soon as you're off the phone you'll be sending a copy of the letter to him and HR to make it official (and I'd probably cc it to my personal email at the same time).

putting in your 2 weeks
what's proper etiquette? my boss is on vacation until the 4th and I'm putting in my notice today. I've already drafted the LOR but wanted to call him first to give him a heads up, just as a courtesy. from there do I just email him the resignation and copy HR on it? never done this before so pardon my ignorance.Tags: None
