I find it hilarious that these same cop haters in this thread will be the same ones who post "If a mother fucker ever tried to drag me under their truck I would be shooting that motherfucker!"

I have one question, but before I get to that - props to the officer for doing what needed to be done.

A lot of it's assumption, but if he's right handed - he's most likely reaching into the car WITH his right hand, which would undoubtedly be the one trapped.. and assuming his gun would be on his RH side how did he get the gun out if he's bieng drug by his right arm? Was the weapon already unholstered?

It said his left arm was trapped, he freed it while holding on to the luggage rack with his right arm.

My guess is he was on high alert and probably had his right hand on his weapon or near the holster during the stop, and tried to unlock the door using his left hand while keeping his right hand close to his side. It says some UC officers asked him to stop the vehicle and make an arrest, so he probably already had the idea that this guy was a flight risk or a danger.

Entirely speculation and heresay from news reports, that's just my guess of how it went down.

If he was right handed I would imagine he would reach into the car with his left hand. Why would he leave his gun side wide open by reaching in with his right hand and giving the perp a free unobstructed shot at grabbing his firearm?

I think they train them to start being ambidextrous and thinking about which hand they use to do stuff, because like Lone Sailor said they have to think about their motion and actions opening up opportunities for their gun to be taken and used against them, etc.

Most likely he reached with his left hand if he is right handed. As an officer you are trained to always keep your dominate hand free at all times. Also if his dominate hand was the one in the window, officers are trained also to be able to unholster and fire with their other hand.

New article posted on yahoo news says officer was indeed trapped on the running boards for a short distance before firing 12 rounds into the perp.

and fwiw, i've only ever been pulled out of the car to be detained. for a normal traffic stop it's never happened.

If I had to choose between possibly getting ran over and dragged by a car or scaring some kid for life because I blew his dads head off for trying to run me over. I'll take the head shot for $500 Alex.
