Yeah, in sales alot of my networking is done in bars, though in those instances I'm not necessarily going in alone. On business trips though I usually head down to the hotel bar to see who's down there. I usually stay in pretty nice places so it's nothing like the clientelle that you'll find at a local pub.

True, you have to chose your spots wisely...

We're both prob in the same boat. When you travel you have two options

1. Be a recluse and stay in the hotel the entire time
2. Random bar/brewpub, random barstool, meet some new people and see what happens.

Feeling weird is all on you. Go to have fun, there's nothing weird about that, just be comfortable in your own skin.

Exactly. Just about everbody that I've met in that situation is more than happy to chat, you just gotta be willing to listen. Just hope that your new friend doesn't wake up with a severe hangover and wonder what the hell he was thinking asking you to speak.

Yep, kinda like eating alone. Sometimes I want to get room service and enjoy the boob tube, and other times I want to get out and see people. If you want company there is almost always someone willing to oblige.

Thought about it tonight after the hellacious day I've had. Once I dropped my son off at my parents house I went and unloaded my car off the trailer and I passed 4 bars on the way home. Really wanted to grab a couple Car Bombs for St Pattys Day but I'm just not the type of person to go to a bar alone unless I know someone working there.

Depends, if I've popped down from my room for a quick night cap, then yeah, but I personally never go to any bar or pub with the intention of sitting alone, drinking at home is much cheaper if all you wanna do is catch a buzz. I have gone with the intention of just people watching with a drink or two, but I usually end up chatting up somebody by the end of the evening.

I'm a social person though, there's nothing wrong with wanting a change of scenery while having a few drinks, even if you don't feel like talking to anyone. If you have an issue sitting alone, then you're either shy, or a tad self-conscious. I've been both, so I'm not trying to insult. I'm just saying that no body else has a problem with you being at the bar, alone or otherwise, so you shouldn't either.

Im somewhat shy and self conscious, though I will chat if someone is alone next to me at the bar but I won't go up to someone in a group

I have never gone to a bar alone. If I was on out of town business, I would probably drop in a local place just to get out of the hotel room.

I go to the bars every now and then but usually just the places right around the corner from my house.... Also usually to watch a certain game but that's about it.
