Iv got a toyota 4 runner axle at work and I cant find anyone to press on a new one for me. Toyota dealer techs want $198 to do it. Something tells me that 2 hours billed is way too much.

Iv got a press. Toyota uses a retarded wheel bearing setup. You're supposed to have a special tool for it. I found an article online where a guy cut the axle tubes off of an old toyota axle and welded them together to make the tube. That is what I thought it was. You should be able to handle it with no problem if you have a press. To make the tools needed just get some steel 1.5" threaded flanges and some 1.5" black or galvanized pipe and you will be good to go. I got it done yesterday but thank you. I ended up removing the snap ring and slamming the axle down on the ground until the bearing popped out. This is how the setup goesOriginally posted by greenbullitt View Post
axle, outer seal, hub/brake backing plate, retainer, snap ring, abs ring, and another retainer. I figure the axle was already trashed so there was no way I was going to mess it up an more. Pressing all of that crap back on was a pita though.Comment

It had an abs ring so the pipe had to be 3" inside diameter. Which the local hardware stores dont carry.Originally posted by svo855 View PostComment
