I have a Foxbody that the starter is staying engaged after starting. The starter is about a year old. Is the starter relay causing this? The starter has never sounded right since I installed it. Is it possible that I have the starter relay wired wrong?

Well, I installed a new motor craft starter relay and it is still doing it. How to I determine the problem? If it is the ignition, how do I determine this? I,m sure it is the stock switch. Is there anything else that can keep the starter engaged like a short or something?

Next time it gets hung up carefully pull the "S" wire off the relay. If it stays engaged then it is not your ignition switch, it is the relay... again. When the starter stays engaged I can turn the key forward and it stops. I replaced the starter relay already but it is still doing it. I haven't tried pulling the "S" wire yet. Right now it is an infrequent occurrence. I'm fairly sure I had the ignition switch replaced in the last 5 years by Ford as a result of the recall.
Can it be happening as a result of a short or a bad starter solenoid? I just don't want to start throwing parts at it. I did this with the starter relay. What is the best way to trouble shoot the problem.
