My stator was peeled like a tater.

I thought the torque converter went out, but turns out this was the culprit.

looks like it came part way out, or the converter lost it's shimming and let it engage too far into the stator (that's the stator support shown).

That's a stock one, no?

Yes, it is the stock one. It is being replaced by a hardened steel replacement. I was thinking it should be riding up a little more on the splined area.
