5.4 spark plug replacement tips

Any tricks to not breaking the spark plugs when taking them out? My roommate has a 2006 f150 and I know that they break but with no personal experience I was just wondering if theres a trick to it. TIA. Roll tide?

run a can of seafoam through the motor. Then flood the motor several times with another can. Let it sit till room temp and follow ford procedure. I use seafoam in a squirt bottle im place of carb cleaner though. Done several hundred and only had about 15 come apart. Patience is key and follow the ford process.

Yep sea foam the shit outta of it and PB blaster down the plug holes for about 5-10 minutes of soak and then ease them out with 9/16 magnetic socket. Did mine with 90k on it and broke 0

Took my 05 to the dealer to have them done and it came back with 2 cylinders misfiring. Definitely recommend doing it yourself to get it done right. If you do break one off eBay has the tool to remove them

bring it to the dealer and let them screw with the heart ache. I use to work at Ford and i hated doing tune ups on 5.4's because of the dam spark plugs. Thats just my 2 pennies...

I just had mine done at Westway for $300. Would have done myself but didn't want to risk them breaking.

We're talking about a 3v. The plugs are 15 bucks each. I doubt you got it done that cheap.

Take it to Paul AKA greenbullit. He will take care of you. He charges a flat rate to change the plugs and it's cheaper than the dealer.

I know what plugs you guys are talking about. I have a 2007 f150 with 5.4. They just did the the plugs and it cost me 300 bucks. They warned me that if I try to do myself they might break being a 2 piece plug.

Pics of plug? I have an older 2v 5.4 and never had issues getting them out but the 2v older head design is famous for spitting them

Guess I got lucky, I took it real slow and they all came out in one piece, threw some anti-seize on the new plugs (below the threads) and called it a day.

Also. Replace them with a plug # 7989
They have a one piece bottom end

Just use an impact wrench. It'll be fine.

Replace the plugs with the E3 Plugs (They are one piece and you'll never ever have to worry about breaking them again).
