  • reattaching side moldings on a fox

I pulled the ones on the door off to be painted since they were yellowed. When putting them back on, I know its just the double sided tape you use. Do you guys pull the old tape off the car or put it right over it?

How did you remove the moldings initially? If you didn't remove them correctly they will look like shit when you put them back on.

You want the tape to stick to the car, not to the exisintg 20 year old tape. You can do it that way, but it looks like shit, IMO. Not too mention it normally doesn't adhere that well(longevity).

If they are wrinkled at all (meaning you pulled them off like a sticker instead of using a putty knife and glue remover), throw them away. You will never get the wrinkles out of them. And if you didn't store them hanging (never coil them), and they've been off the car for a while, they have probably shrunk by a good inch.

If they are still straight, and haven't shrunk, remove all traces of the glue from the car and the trim, apply new tape, put them on the car, and hold in place with masking tape for a while, just to be safe.

Ok. They have been off for 4 or 5 days. They were laid in the garage and have a slight curve to them. Paint is not wrinkled though

It's not the paint that will wrinkle, it's the trim itself. The edges will get "wavy" if they are pulled off wrong.
