All depends on how you drive it.Originally posted by TEAMJACOB View Postso when i pick my car up from true street, dont beat the shit out of it unless im prepared to put it back in the shop?
Ive heard of ones lasting with big power and I've seen some bust with stock engines.
3rd gear is the weak gear, if you lay into in 3rd you're taking a higher chance of blowing the guts.

IMO, a lot of it is just how you treat the thing overall. You can still have fun and beat on it some, but if you're banging the thing on every single shift then sure it's typically going to wear much more prematurely. I've had several T5's that have held up to lots of drag racing and I've had a couple that didn't make it long behind a stock 302 street car. I think a lot of what people don't take into consideration is that when someone talks about blowing up the transmission, they don't look at whether it has all new parts, or if someone did a half assed or inexperience self rebuild on the thing. Those are some of the variables I've seen over the years that some, mainly the young and inexperienced, don't take into consideration.Originally posted by 351Coupe View PostI have one in the 90 and in the 68, no grinds ever into reverse.
The one in the 68 has been behind the h/c/i 351 for years of abuse with hard launches on drag radials. No problems yet.
Not saying that's typical, I think I'm just lucky. I have tore up a few before this one but for some reason the one I'm on now just won't die. Knock on wood.
