Yes i would run the 5-30 in the higher mileage engines. Also run a motorcraft filter. I run motorcraft oil and filter in all my vehicles. Always comes out clean.

x2... as long as you stick close to the recommended oil weight.Originally posted by sspstang View PostI agree with this post.
OP, with only 111k miles I would stay with the 5w20 if that is what is recommended by the manufacturer for yours. Synthetic will allow you to go to longer change intervals and does have the benefit of lower viscosity at startup, but as for increasing longevity... everybody I know wrecks their shit, trades or sells it, or swaps engines long before that would make a difference.Last edited by TENGRAM; 02-11-2012, 09:34 AM.

O'reilly's or Autozone blend for me. Advanced Auto if I'm in the area when I'm doing my change about every 15k or so. What's synthetic?
Joking aside...can anybody really point to a brand of oil that actually hurt a motor? My conspiracy theory mind goes back to thinking of the brands just like HEB or Walmart brand "cola" really being the real thing minus the marketing and brand.
My $4000 220,000k F150 gets the $50 valvoline special @ shop and my C5Z gets self-changed mobile1 + WIX filter. Both run great.2004 Z06 Commemorative Ed.

Usually true. The Wal Mart brand Supertech oil which they came out with a synthetic of is bottled by a place called Warren Petroleum I think, which IIRC also does other labels though I don't remember which right now.Originally posted by mschmoyer View PostO'reilly's or Autozone blend for me. Others agreed, I disagree. Sorry but there's a big difference between Wal-Mart's Supertech brand and something like AMSoil, when it comes to how well it will protect your engine in the long run. How it will contribute to engine life. Also your blanket statement would seem to suggest that there really isn't much difference in the chemical makeup of all the various oils, and that it wouldn't make much difference anyway.Originally posted by Downs View PostHonestly it doesn't really matter what you use as long as you change on something that resembles a schedule...
