I tore a LQ4 apart that had right at 300,000 miles and the owner claimed to use Amsoil and changed it at 25,000 miles. It still looked brand new on the inside, after lugging a ten thousand pound truck around all it's life; I was impressed. If I had to choose between the two, it would be Amsoil if I can find it.

That's odd, the Walmart near me has them in a 5 qt jug...

I've run mobil 1(oil and filters) in my trucks since I started buying new vehicles for work.

Currently, my 08 Sierra has just over 180k miles on it and I haven't had any problems. I average 8-10k miles per oil change. It doesn't smoke or use any oil. I've looked in the valve covers and cylinders and everything still looks new to me.

Never tried Amsoil... mostly because it's easier to come by the Mobil1.

Check out the forum on www.bobistheoilguy.com

More oil info on there than you probably ever wanted to know.

Amsoil is hands down the better of the 2 but I use Mobil 1 in all of my work trucks simply because it can be bought at Wal-Mart 24/7.

What do you drive and how long do you go between oil changes? 99% of the time Mobil 1 will do the job just fine unless you plan going 15k+ miles on an oil change.

People say Mobil 1 is bad because UOA results show high iron wear vs other synthetic oils. There's debate if these "wear numbers" really mean anything.

are you planning on sticking with the Ford recommended oil change intervals of 10k?

i dont. I change mine at 5k. It just makes me feel better. But then again, for 8 quarts i stick with motorcraft.
in the end, i probably still dont spend as much as if i bought 8 quarts of amsoil and only changed it 10k

    ps. voted amsoil.
