  • 89 steering column vs 91..

My cruise stopped working now my horn and the air bag light has been on forever.

So that's likely the clock spring.

My column has a tiny knock in when I turn the wheel from side to side, which is common from what I've read. My steering wheel is coming apart too.

So Im faced with 2 options. Swap my 89 wheel and column in or buy my buddys 91 column with a steering wheel, but needs a clock spring.

I like the 87-89 steering wheels better. So I'm stuck on what to do.

Will the 89 go in without problems?

I think that the mechanical parts of the column are the same but the wiring may be slightly different between the years. If so, you could overcome that fairly easily.

This doesn't completely address your questions but is some interesting reading for those of us with older Fox cars with steering columns that need a little TLC.

you can swap in a 87-89 steering column into a 90 & up. You need to change the bright/headlight wire as it will be reversed. I did this on my coupe. FYI, their is a wiring writeup somewhere in the internet world to do this.
