  • 96 corvette gas smell

Car has a very strong fuel odor after about 15min of driving and I've noticed that there is excessive pressure in the tank; when I open the cap it spews pressure for about ten seconds. I'm tending to think its a canister/ canister purge valve issue. Any ideas on trouble shooting this?

you might be on the right path with the purge valve solenoid.

Check the vacuum hoses coming off of the tank, trace them back until you find the vent solenoid. What I've heard happens is dirt gets clogged in the opening.

I had dropped the tank on the coupe to replace the fuel hat o ring, and when I put it back in I pinched a vent hose between the tank and the body, there was so much pressure in the tank the fuel gauge started to work funny, the car smelled like gas and it would blow air out when you took off the cap.

Check the simple things first, it may just be a clogged or smashed hose.
