this image is how it works
you run large gauge from a fused +12v source to 30. you run the fan or whatever on 87. when 85 and 86 make a complete circuit (meaning one has + and one has - it connects 30 to 87). when 85 and 86 are not making a complete circuit 30 and 87a are connected. this is the typical 5 pin bosch relay. these are normally 30 amp so you'll probably want to find one that is 50amp.
lastly, ive searched and can not find the cfm of a mach 1 fan. does anyone know?
thanks

i have been trying to wire up a fan out of a 2003 mustang to my fox. i bought a hayden controller from oreillys. the ac was suppose to turn on the fan and it didnt. i went ahead and let the car warm up to see if the thermo sensor would turn it on and as soon as it tried to kick on, it popped a fuse. the fan is wired like this...
ground coming from fan grounded to frame.
red wire from fan ran to the controller with an inline fuse (25 i believe).
the low speed wire on the fan is cut and tucked away.
the relay that came with the controller is a 30 amp relay
the controller its self has
a red wire that i ran to the back of the alternator for the constant 12v source
a yellow wire that is for ignition that needs a 12v source with the key on that i ran to a wire on the alternator harness the gets hot with key on.
a black ground
and a green wire that i tied into the ac switch on the dryer that gets hot with the ac on.
i dont know why the fan wouldnt come on when i turn the ac on or why the fuse popped when the thermo sensor finally told it to come on based on temperature

I have a 10gauge wire from battery side of starter relay, to fan relay under dash, out to the fan. And a 10gauge ground from fan to frame. Works great. Its always on. Simple.
