  • Tr3650 needed

I need a Tr3650 soon to drop into the mach since second gear is about to bite the dust. Does anybody have one/know somebody that could sell one to me?
I have one in the garage, but it was dropped out of my brother's 04 GT with a worn out synchronizer. Should I get a rebuild instead of buying another one ($450 quote)? Thanks guys

Probably just the synchro and blocker rings, rebuild it. Takes maybe an hour if it's out of the car.

IDK, I might rip open my tr3650 because the actual gears are really screwed up and see if I repair it for learning purposes.

I am probably going to just toss the one sitting in the garage at the shop for them to do correctly.

Messing up gear is caused from too much power or not enough fluid. Most of the time the gears are good, but like don said the syncro and lock ring loose thier edge and stop functioning. Making it grind and have a hard time matching speed and finding the splines to engage.

You have a layshaft that is solid, and the rest of the gears ride on bearings. Aka synronised. They are all always turning. The syrnco is what slides back and forth and engages the gears by locking them in place.

I can rebuild it for you if you like $250 plus parts. But its likely gonna cost more then $450 you where quoted for the other tranny.

$600 for reman Ford units is dirt cheap unless they fell off the back of someone's delivery truck.

doubtful on the gears really being screwed. The gears are always engaged via countershaft, the synchro ring goes over the chosen gear's blocker ring and engages that paerticular gear. It's almost always the synchro and blocker that go out when grinding is an issue, and bent shift forks/rods accelerate it.
