  • to build or to buy

Just bought a 302 based s-trim hatch with a fresh but bad motor. Thought I mighta gotten lucky when I found a bent pushrod. Ended up losing a rod bolt. I can buy a used engine for pretty cheap but just in case what are the prices on machine work these days> crank turned- I have 2 both have some wear, block prepped- have 2 as well, rings bearings etc...... Just really wondering how much it will actually cost to build an engine if I assemble it myself. I also have a 351 block, crank and rotating assembly but I really dont want to go into a full swap like that. let me know if any of you guys has some info for me--(or if you want to buy a used block or 2!)

I would part it out & sell the parts & get your money back & buy one already built & tuned running

Last time I priced a rebuilt short block vs assembling it myself, I wasn't saving any money.

Thats is kinda what I was thinking. I have most of the money put back already but I am nervous to get a quote from someone to rebuild it and have the price go way up when it is ready. Maybe i'll just look into using mine as a core.
