A/C question

probably a stupid question, but I am going to ask anyways.

The AC on our 2000 Expy has worked great for the last 2 1/2 years and still blows cold. But, it blows much colder in the front dash when the rear A/C is running. I know nothing about this, but I thought they were two seperate systems. Why is this?

Same system just seperate evaporator's and fans.

One reason is you are removing more moisture from the cabin and essentially cooling twice the amount of cabin air so the one system isn't working as hard on a large area.
