  • Engine cleaning.

What do you guys use to clean your engines?

Mines not nasty it's just has a little bit of grime.

I sprayed it down with super clean and power washed it. It did pretty good, but it could be better.

    Any suggestions?

My main concern is the painted parts, the red just looks dirty still.

The engine is fine for the most part, the firewall and fender aprons look like doo doo brown and I don't like it very much.

I warm up the car for about 10 minutes then shower the entire engine bay, then spay an assload of simple green everywhere and close the hood for about 20 minutes. Lets the steam work its magic. Then hose off everything.

Purple power degreaser works well but might take paint off

Simple green is my choice. I just washed my ranger than sat at a lumber yard for 3 years and it was nasty and full of dirt. ITs all clean now. lol. That steam bath does sounds neat. But i never wanted to pray cold water on a warm engine. lol.

Dollar general sells a product called mean green, it does a fine job. If you really want the grime off you might need to add some elbow grease and a big, bristle-type brush.

Meguirs sells a concentrated engine degreaser that you can get commercially, but it will take stickers off and the paint off if you arent careful.

The purple power says not to use on anything anodized so if you have anything pretty in there, dont let it sit on it for more than a couple minutes.

lots of votes for simple green... what process do you guys use? Just spray it on, let it sit, then rinse off? I've always been a little leary taking a pressure washer to the engine bay.

Cover the air filter and dist cap and go to town.
