  • heater hose caps that are not junk

I am looking for some 5/8 hose caps that are not trash like the dorman ones they sell at the parts stores, the dorman stuff cracks after 1-2 months of use.

I think that is what he is trying to avoid is the rubber.

When I was building my car, I used the rubber caps and jut changed them out about twice a season. Then when I rebuilt the motor, I actually removed the tubes from the water pump and tapped them with a pipe tap and used brass plugs.

The tubes were a bitch to get out, but the plugs actually tapped pretty easy and have sealed with no issues. Of course, the pump was new and off the car when I did that.

If you can take and crush the pipe and weld it shut, that will work as well

Those rubber caps NEVER last. You might have some success with a PVC cap and high-temp PVC cement (I seent it) but the right way is to run pipe threads with a tap and use a brass plug.

I have some smaller epdm rubber caps that last like a champ, I am actually blocking off an oil return port on my miata, I don't want a junk dorman cap coming apart on a road course and putting me into a wall from oil all over the track.
