  • Conversion fitting for filling co2 tank with nitrous?

I've got a 2lb co2 tank I use for boost control, sick of messing with welding supply houses that don't want to purge their lines to fill a 2lb bottle, not to mention the risk of running out at the track. I see a lot of guys fill them with nitrous, but I know the fittings are different between the two bottles.

Anyone know what kind of conversion fitting I'd need to be able to get my co2 tank filled at a nitrous refill station?

    My bottle looks like this:

why? Its cheaper to fill with c02...and with the shops around here, easier to get ahold of co2 unless at the track

I've been paying on average 10-15 to fill my tank at welding supply houses (after hearing them moan about purging their lines to fill a 2lb tank), plus it isn't easy for me to get by any of these places since most are only open during the week. At 10-15 thats 5-7.50 a pound, most nitrous fills I've seen are ~$5 a lb, and the fact it is available at the track (which is the only place I'll ever "need" it) is a huge plus.

some guys do run on board air from what i understand, but the higher pressure of co2 or n2o seem to be preferred by most. i'm def. not the only person doing this, but obviously nobody here knows what adapter fitting i'll need. i know i can't take this tank to a track fill station and expect them to have the right fitting so i wanted to keep one in the car just in case.

I use nitrous (For the boost controller), and will continue to forever.

The last time I had my C02 filled, I watched the girl fill it without a pump and holding the bottle in her hands above the level of the parent bottle. Needless to say, that fill was all air, no liquid. It lasted 2 nights.

The next time, I had it filled with nitrous (I have my own fitting). I'm on the 6th trip to the track and it's barely showing any signs of giving up. I suspect this bottle would last nearly all season in the summer climate.

DJ, compressed air works fine. On Rick's car - he has an air ride pump and tank instead of a C02 system. Works fine, but it's an additional load on the charging system. Some cars that's a deal breaker. The good thing is that we have an air hose/chuck that stays in the trunk for airing up the slicks in the staging lanes!

They have those kits at hardware stores. They aren't very expensive. Something like $5.85.

How about nitrogen instead or Co2 ? When I used to paintball I swapped all my guns over and used to fill my tanks up at work for free.

Friend of mine draq raced when he was still alive and used a co2 controlled air shifter, he could run most of a season on 1 fill, it was the tall skinny bottle.
