  • Ford fuel injector question.

I need to know if theese two injectors are the same/compatible.

1991 ford explorer, originally has black top injectors.

1997 motor 4.0 ohv swapping into it, it has red top injectors.

    Are they interchangeable?

Trying to avoid taking the fuel rail off, as it's an intake spacer and do not want to invite vacuum leaks if it's not needed.

    Thanks guys!

Reds look to be 30#. Black tops.....well, they may not be black, or they may have been changed out at some point.

I have black 42# in my 306, but they are made by Lucas.

      I'll take pics.

      Why would they put a #30 in a 150hp 4.0 v6? Hmm..

      Ive googled and googled..

Who the hell knows anymore. I see some strange shit these days.

Over the year and a half I spent building my car, I can't count the amount of times I said "Who does this shit to a car????".

There are kinds of people that think they know what they are doing and have not got 1 damn clue.

That being said, if I were you, I would nut up, strip the intake and pull the injectors and find out EXACTLY what you have. It is always a gamble getting used parts.

Both appear to be factory injectors.

no problemo, there was another site that had pictures with the part numbers but it appears to have dissipated.

That website doesn't list my denso 24# though.

Very odd, they are ford denso too.

I have one that has a differant number on it but it's the same otherwise.

Allot of times replacement injectors will have a different color top. They have been updated by Ford for one reason or the other over the years.

I do a lot of engine changes at work,my experience is to basically long block it. Especially with motors that far apart in production dates. They might appear to be same but may not plug in, or run like dog shit or not at all then you get to change it out in the car.

Being that the injectors are the same, that's pretty much what I have it down to right now anyways. I have it down to just the lower intake manifold and fuel rail. I'll be using everything else off my 91' (non egr). That way I keep all my old sensors ect.. They only sensors I'll be re using is the crank and oil pressure switch. I'll even be reusing my stock manifolds as they are still part of the y pipe.
