Damn I didn't think they were that high. A friend of a friend has a 68 GT500KR. He's owned it for probably 10 years and I know he only paid 45k for it. It's supposedly the only orange one from the factory that year. 65's and 66's have been doing quite well in relation to the later cars i think due to the purists, after 66 they were all built in house at ford and badged as shelbys, the 65-66 cars were actually hacked up at the original hangar at LAX. I used to really be into the early Mustangs (mainly 428/429 CJ stuff). The earlier cars are definitely preferred by the true Shelby "purist" because of what you outlined. I think around the summer/fall of '67, Ford was pretty much building them. $100k-$150k is not uncommon for the early (pre-'67) cars.
