Any tips or tricks to this thing? My 87 just started leaking or should I say dripping, so I bought a new reservoir since last time it started leaking I replaced the rubber ring and that took care of the problem that time. I figured the old res. was ready to go anyway. So I put the new on and as I poor the new fluid, I noticed its dripping again , so I get under the car and notice that the new ring was sticking out. I guess when I slid the new reservoir in with the new ring, it pushed the ring out a little. So I pulled it back out but the time I pulled out the whole pump to make sure I get a good seal all the way around and the new ring doesn't come out again. Well, it looked and felt even sounded like it slid in well but when I bolted everything back up and poured more fluid in, it started dripping again. This isn't really a big deal, just wanted to see if anyone else had a similar problem. Could it be that the ring is too big? It does seem kinda loose when I put it on the pump. Damn reservoir cost $10 less than a whole unit. I'll have to remove the pump again later and try again.

When you say "so the new o-ring does not come out again" did you get another to replace the one that was incorrectly installed? If so it may be the wrong one. If not reusing an o-ring that was not properly installed will usually leak 9 times out of 10 (I hate saying always and never but in this case it is almost always does)
I cannot tell you how many times i have used aftermarket parts that come with the incorrect o-ring size/thickness also.

I just used the new one that came in the box with the new reservoir . I thought it should have given me a little resistance when going on the pump but it didn't. It just slipped right on. Then when I shove the new reservoir in , the ring poking out on the bottomOriginally posted by Skidonenko View PostWhen you say "so the new o-ring does not come out again" did you get another to replace the one that was incorrectly installed? I guess it slipps off when I shove the reservoir on......bro....

If the big o-ring did slip out its possible it got a small cut in it. I would always lube the NEW o-ring each time with good wheel bearing grease and lube inside of res. each time I installed one. Some cars and a bike...
Some say... they have been raced, some a lot

I recently did a HCI on my car and i just let the PS assembly rest on the floor. It started leaking after that. I haven't hadtime to get in there and really investigate where it's coming from but it's a pretty good leak. It will leak out all of the fluid overnight. I'm pretty sure its coming from the high pressure hose. However the front of the PS pump had some buildup behind the pulley so I might as well just go ahead and replace everything while I'm at it.Originally posted by shumpertdavid View PostThe swivel end of the hose at the pump only needs a light amount of torque, 16 ft lbs iirc. If you get crazy tightening it, it will deform where the inner part seals and cause a leak. I learned the hard way.on a customers car not to over tighten these.

I guess I've been putting IKEA furniture together too long and got used to having extra parts left over , so I left out an extra o ring that went at the other end if the line. It took me like 4 hours to remove and replace the line. It should have taken me that long. I found the other o ring the next day. I disconnected the line from the other end (not the Res. side) snapped the o ring on and screwed it back in. Took me about 45min. Its WAY easier if you remove the driver side tire.Originally posted by Venom View PostHow did this end up working out? I think my pressure hose has a blown out seal where it joins the pump. The seal kit is 7.00 vs 29.00 for the hose. Was replacing the hose a PITA?.....bro....
