  • What size MAF?

This question has been asked a million times, but no consistent answer...

I converted my 87 to mass air, and have an E cam and a vortech v-3si on it running 5-6 psi. Fixing to put a UPR boostmaster on it, hoping to see ~8psi after that. Everything else is pretty much stock. I'm using a stock MAF meter, but Andy @ Prime Tuning suggested an aftermarket meter before tuning. I'll be running 42# injectors... but what size MAF meter should I get?

I've heard to stay away from C&L...

Future plans are heads, better cam, and intake, and eventually more boost... but those are all probably a year or two down the road. One person suggested the BA3000 from SCT.

I've given myself a headache reading all this stuff all day so now I turn to you guys for guidance.

    03/04 cobra maf works good.

A lightning meter should suffice and is pretty affordable.

03-4 cobra or lightning maf is what I would go with.

The transfer function is more accurate for your goals.

Worst case you would need a MAFia if the power level grows past the MAF.

Lightning maf is the best choice.

Lightning MAF is good, I have one, but it only took me to about 400rwhp. I had to add a MAFia to mine once I started increasing the boost.

LMAF meters aren't calibrated to anything. The calibration for the Lightninging 42's is in the Lightning ECM. The known transfer tables are primarily based off of the factory Lightning ECM values. This assumes you have an airbox on the front of the meter. I found mine to be off as much as 12% in some areas when installed with a cone filter in front. The known transfer table for the 90mm LMAF will get you up and running though. I would suggest an HPX Slot meter in a 3" tube. That is good up to about 600hp and much more when placed in a 3.5" tube.

Lightning and Cobra MAF are the same thing - both would work great for this combination and can be bought really cheap 50/75$ plus wiring adapter or pigtail

I have a Lightning MAF you can have cheap. Make me an offer or you can have the whole 90mm cold air intake and MAF for $150 and you can sell the cold air to get your money back...
