  • Fox front suspension noise

My 91 GT convertible has an odd popping noise in the front. It happens when going over sharp bumps or pulling in the driveway. It's hard to describe but sounds like a popping or banging noise over bumps and almost a groan when pulling in/out of the driveway. I've tried to find where the issue is, but everything looks normal. The whole front end is basically rebuilt with new Motorsport a-arms, Baer brakes, eibach springs, tokico illumina struts with steel CC plates, subframe connectors and steering rack.

Is there something that could be broken or torn that I'm missing? It wasn't too bad in the past but seems to be getting worse.

    Ball joint is bad

Probably a ball joint, but before you start tearing them out, check the sway bar end link bushings. They get old and can fall out leaving metal on metal.

One of the ball joints was bad. That's why I replaced the a-arms with the updated ball joints (M-3075-a frpp kit). The sway bar and end link bushings are newish too. This just has me stumped. Nothing is broken that I can see. Could it be the motor mounts? It doesn't seem to affect the ride but it is annoying.

Go check your ball joints. I dont care if they are a month old. Popping = ball joint 90% of the time

my old GT had that same issue. so with the car parked hood up. i started pushing down on the front end to simulate a bump. turns out both my top strut nuts where very loose. i had about a 1/2 inch Gap between the strut nuts and the cc plates. i just re tightened em and no more popping sound.

                    my fault though.
i had been working on the car for two straight days, i replaced the steering rack: bad leak!
and i instilled lowering springs. cc plates. new shocks & struts. bump steer kit. brake job.
long storie short. i was dead tired! and forgot to tighten strut nuts.

just have someone pushing down on the front. while you visually inspect top and bottom.
