  • Best way to clean oil off parts

    What is the best way to clean oil off a transmission, underside , and misc parts ?

    I plan on pulling transmission this weekend and i want to clean it all up while its out.

        Brake cleaner is what I use.

          I recently used some oven cleaner and let it sit overnight. Holy shit, that stuff worked great.

                Ive used that too, but I quickly sprayed it down with a pressure washer.

                  If it's really dirty, you're going to spend a lot of money on brake cleaner. If you want something in a can that will actually cut the grease, hit it with Berryman's.

                  I use denatured alcohol to clean residue before painting. But not to clean the grime. A tool for every job IMO

                    True... think about how a trans looks. lots of grooves... whats the best approach in your opinion ?


                    I was gonna load it up and take it to the car wash.... What should i use as a pre-clean to break up the oil ?

                    I really need a steamer ..

                          If you clean the bell housing, watch out.

                          1 high pressure shot into the housing and you'll have a face full of shit.
