Since there are some hardcore Fairmont guys on here, I figured I'd ask some questions, get a little more info from you guys. I know the Fairmont was built on the Fox platform, same as the Mustang. I know quite a few parts from the Mustang will work on the Fairmont, e.g. suspension, brakes, etc. I guess my main question is, what parts [I]won't[I] interchange between the two? Can a Fox Mustang interior be swapped into a Fairmont? Body parts?

Seats have a different bolt pattern from mustang to mont, but that's a drill and a couple washers from working. The carpet is different for sure. Dash is the same, so swapable. Carpet is different, and the back seat is too.

Fenders and front end can be swapped, but not much else."If I asked people what they wanted, they would have said faster horses." - Henry Ford

carpet is the same just an inch shorter in the rear, supposedly lots of guys are running the mustang carpet with slight modification. I was planning on it if I ever get around to buying carpet.Originally posted by Baron Von Crowder View PostSeats have a different bolt pattern from mustang to mont, but that's a drill and a couple washers from working. Some people have put mustang interior into fairmonts, I personally like the fairmont interior. What body parts would you even want to change? Hood and fenders are not swappable, nor is glass, lights, grill, etcOriginally posted by asphaltjunkie View PostSince there are some hardcore Fairmont guys on here, I figured I'd ask some questions, get a little more info from you guys. Even under the hood there is some differences.

Stut towers are different than 90 and up when you get caster camber plates.

The spindles are bigger than 87 and up v8 spindles. Keep this in mind when buying struts. Brakes are also smaller.

Subframes have to be custom. Not as much room in the wheelwells either.

If you are planning on using a ford v8 get a 4 banger. It has the right k member for a v8 swap vs the i6k

Depending on the year as well they a arms are shorter as well than 87-93 stuff.

The gas tanks are different but you can make a mustang tank fit if you modify the trunk area.
 All my experience is 79-81.

I've been all up in a fairmont, and ours has a 98 k member, 96 rear axle with disks, 94 spindles and arms, cobra disks, a 4.6,t45 mm manual brake conversion, etc. We ran a factory tank with an in tank pump for a while before the cell. There are lots of mix n match you can do, as long as you don't listen to the stupid fucking idiots that tell you it can't be done on the Internet."If I asked people what they wanted, they would have said faster horses." - Henry Ford

Money? Not so much. 98% of that was from the bone yards. Smarts, well, some. Plus some advice from people who had actually done it, as opposed to people who look at two different part numbers and say they aren't compatible. Welder, hammer, torch, nah. I don't own a torch. The only thing I welded were new crossmember brackets for the Trans.Originally posted by Sleeper View Postanything can be done with enough time/money/smarts.

having a hammer amd a torch and welder helps.
This. Very important.Originally posted by Cooter View Postand whiskey... never forget the whiskey"If I asked people what they wanted, they would have said faster horses." - Henry Ford

I say money because everything here that should be 10.00 is a 1000.00

A tore up set of 10 holes are forsale for 250.00 and im not shitting. No tires no nothing.

If i worked at a junk yard i could build mine for a 1/3 of what its really going to cost me.

Buy whole cars for a few hundred. Take what you need, crush the shell. When we built ours, it took three cards to make one. We sold parts in order to get others. We traded a t5 for the t45 at a trans builder. You have to either be rich or resourceful, or both."If I asked people what they wanted, they would have said faster horses." - Henry Ford
