Looking to get some new rear tires for my cobra...I was looking at the MT Street Radial II's and have a question. What is the difference between the sidewall width and the tread width? I replaced the 295 BFGs that were on there with Nitto Invos in the same size and the Nittos are much thinner...it appears that they are 1/2" based on my research. I have had the 305 Nitto DRs before and like the way they look on the car but I wouldnt mind trying the MTs...if the actual width isnt 11.5" like these Invos are...thanks.

I've never seen the "sidewall width" listed as you mention, or I just haven't paid attention to it..
The cross section is the width of the entire tire. The tread width, well.. it's only to the corners of the tread. (sometimes the tread wraps around the corner of the tire, so they get to claim it as "tread") The only difference between manufacturers is their designation on HOW they measure the width. Back in the day, they started nominal measurements so that certain wider tires could make it into a class where a smaller tire was required.. they started getting outlawed and consequently put the "w" designation on them.. a lot of this transitioned into the street tire scene.
HTH..
