TRAPPED IN A BURNING RACE CAR, Part I

It sucks, I remember the thought of disbelief when realizing. I was pushed into a campfire by a drunk friend being a dipshit 10 years ago. Adrenaline and shock muted the initial pain but Jesus christ the time after that was horrendous. I had 19 2nd and 3rd degree burns all over me.

All from internet hearsay, there was supposed to be a fire system, but either the driver couldnt find it in the smoke and flames, or it was out of reach of a belted in driver, or it was too late.Originally posted by jw33 View PostI heard about this the weekend it happened and I've been wondering specifically what went wrong, what kind of gear the driver was wearing, and if the car had a fire system. It seems weird that fuel could get inside the car, but I don't know the 944 well enough to know if that is the way the fuel lines are routed from the factory.
The factory lines are run inside the car, from what I understand.
They dont know exactly what happened, but the factory lines are run inside the car.Originally posted by orphan Shelby View PostA lot of oh shit in that situation. But how is fuel system setup where he feels fuel mist inside the car. Fuel gauge run without isolator?
The promoter was on facebook asking not to judge, since they werent sure where the fire started. I reminded him that we knew where it went, and that is more of the problem."If I asked people what they wanted, they would have said faster horses." - Henry Ford

It is probably the worst way to go, or even to be injured. Just horrific.Originally posted by Scott Mc View PostBeing on fire is nothing I wish on anyone.
When I was in the Navy, I saw a few guys get burned severely. Those are sights, sounds, and smells that will stay with you forever.Originally posted by built2layframe View PostWhen I was in the army I had to do rounds at that burn center, changed my life. I had to go into a couple houses that had fires, and two in a row were where someone had burned. If you've never smelled a house fire, don't, if you can avoid it. I cant get the smell of burned flesh that was in those two out of my head to this day, it made me stop going on cat team calls if there was a fatality.Originally posted by helosailor View PostIt is probably the worst way to go, or even to be injured. When they were cleaning me I was standing up and since it was a campfire they cleaned me with a nylon brush while I held to bed rail and screamed, It silenced the facility and after a few minutes my dad begged them to stop. Just typing this made my eyse water.Originally posted by helosailor View Post

I have raced a few cars over the years, the scariest moment.... I was at Kennedale. Did my burnout (was in a dragster btw) thought to my self, I smell gas.
Staged, took off only to go into tire spin like a fuel car... then noticed all over the floor board and my butt was GAS! I was scared to death to touch a switch I just wanted out. Some dumb ass left off the fuel cap (was me)
It was the one time I ever violated NHRA's rules badly. I had on blue jeans.... Why I did that, well its complicated and a long story and a Kennedale thing.
Next run I had my Simpson stuff on... trust me...
Fire scares me. Seen it, fought it, seen its power and hunger. Some cars and a bike...
Some say... they have been raced, some a lot
