Check the rules before you start sinking money so you can put it in the right place.
He will have to work through hpde to get to tt but still a good suggestion

show me the torque/hp curve. If it ain't table flat from 2500 to 6500 those peak numbers won't do much for you having to carry around the extra weight over the nose. It's also difficult to get more compression on a 4V unless you bore or stroke.

I think I am just going to do the 302 crate motor. I will save the 347 stuff I have for my 63.

i know my old neighbor mark betin aka L8apex (RIP) ran a sbf that was roughly 318ci and spun it to 7500 all day long..

i dont think you'd want to spin a 347 at high rpm

I've driven mark's old car....new owner tossed me the keys. I don't recall that motor spinning that high. was mostly a torque monster though. He built a nice fox body!

he and "boosted"/rick modena are why i am even on this site.. young impressionable 18 year old.. i miss living next to that guy.. i admit i made up the "7500" but i remember him telling me he spun it past the factory tach. i also remember it had an abs system on a switch. No telling though i never rode in it.. also, WA2FAST aka wes tarbox?? he'd be another guy to get some open track fox body info from.. those guys were doing it before LS1's became cool...

post pics of the 87 saleen!

Aggie is correct. Go with suspension, safety, seat time, then bigger engine.

and you are going to rip out the interior and make a race car out of it?

I am hoping he goes the Time Trial route so he doesn't rip it apart

Last owner sold the flo fit seats so it currently has a kirkey race seat installed. I am keeping the rest of the interior. I will probably run TT with it.
