I think that college players should be able to make money off of whatever they can. What happens if they get hurt and never get their chance at the NFL. The college will just move on to the next guy up no matter how good you are. Anyone can have a career ending injury.

It's a risk that he (and every other athlete) has to take if they're trying to make their living by playing a game.

All you probably look at are schools and sports like UT/Notre Dame/Ohio St. football -- schools that rake in money by the millions. What you don't see are the number of kids on scholarship at those schools and every other one -- kids that are getting a free or partially free education that will never, ever have a chance to play their sport for money on a professional level. You want to know how things work and why it's important that these school make money when they can cash in on a player like Idiot Johnny?

Look at baseball for example. They get 13 athletic scholarships to fill out a team. They have to have obviously more than 13 kids, so they split those scholarships up and use other scholarship money to build a roster. Then they have to have a stadium to play in. They have to have practice facilities, uniforms, travel budget, etc. All of that costs money.

Now look at it like this. There are Major League baseball teams that can't make money, that can't draw fans, and they are the best of the best in the world. Do you think a baseball team, even at a major school, can actually make enough money to pay all of its costs? The same for golf, volleyball, even basketball in most schools and certainly for swimming, track and field, etc. The money these schools make at something like football goes to help pay for a lot of the other sports and for other kids to go to college on scholarship. That's where a lot of the money goes. Sure, some of the schools have way more of it, but that hasn't been and won't always be the case.

Johnny is no different than thousands of other gifted athletes to have come before him. He is getting a free education. He is getting tons of free exposure that could be marketing him in a positive manner. Instead, he's pissing in the wind and I wouldn't be surprised if he never plays another collegiate down ever again.

I was going to post the same thing. If you pay the football team then you have to pay all the sports. Diving, track, high jump, everybody. If you do some research you will find most every college sports lose money and its the football program that supports them all. That is why they won't ever get paid, you would have to pay them all.

FB is the exception, but if they want to play pro, the road is paved through college.

If they don't like the rules, players can go straight to the Pro's. It's the "golden rule": He who has the gold, sets the rules. Player's aren't forced to go to college.

They were "numbered" items, which is usually meant for a dealer who sells them as "limited" items". It was supposedly a 5-figure deal.

Not really. It's a shame, regardless of the school. Coaches shouldn't recklessly recruit guys that already have baggage from high school, but every school does it just to compete. Some guys show their ass in college, and some wait until the pro's, but there's a long list of them from about any big school.

I'm not really licking my chops. The kid is good, no doubt. And he is exciting to watch, which is something Aggie fans have needed for a long time.
