I'm pretty sure what's not right is what Murray thinks he's worth. If someone wanted to pay him what HE thinks he is worth (rumored to be $9-10 million per season), both the Jags and Raiders have more than enough to do just that, and still have plenty left over.

I have a gut feeling nobody is really offering over $7 million per season, and that's why it isn't done. Which is fine. The longer he holds that value, the more doors will close, and the fewer options he'll have when he finally figures out he isn't going to see $10/per.

Obviously, but you said "no one". Jax certainly has more to spend. I can't remember who it was, but "someone with knowledge of the negotiations" has said based solely on the numbers being thrown around, Jax wants him way more than Dallas does.

Uhhh, the other option is to stay put! Ahhh, I remmebr the good le days when the Cowboys didn't even give signing bonuses. In the words of the late and great Tex Schramm, "You get your bonus when we get into the playoffs!"...

Let me start by saying I do not have a solid understanding of how free agency works.

That said, it seems crazy to me to let Murray go after this past season. A strong running game completely changed how this team works and wins. I fear that without him, we're back to either missing the playoffs, or getting ousted in the first playoff game.

A good (great?) running back isn't the only thing they need to make a solid playoff run. Paying Murray (or anybody else at any other position) too much means that they won't be able fill other holes.

I want him back, but not at the price he thinks he is worth. It would handicap the rest of the team to give him a large contract. There are other players on this team that are now free agents, that we need to get under contract.

Murray is an incredible player in my opinion... When he's healthy. That's the biggest issue with Murray. Last year was the first season he has stayed healthy in his entire career, including college football. I don't mean to diminish Murray in any way. I'm a huge fan, and he's a Sooner, so that's bonus points in my book. But the offensive line is the biggest reason Murray was so successful last season. I'm not going to say they can just plug anyone in there and get the same results, but it doesn't make sense to overpay Murray when this year's draft class is stacked with running backs, and we can get a good one MUCH cheaper than we can get Murray. And even if Murray stays, the odds are not in his favor to reproduce what he did last season. History is a big indicator, and nobody in the past has fared well the season following a monster contract year. The Cowboys also will not give him the ball 392 times next season. They plan to use the other backs more frequently than they have, which is wise.
