I understand and agree. I , if I were stopped by LEO, would at the very least request a supervisor to the scene.

I have heard, but can't prove at this point, that anything over $10k is considered "contraband". I will ask some of our interdiction guys to clarify.

I am not defending the actions of the officers in the OP. But like I said there is an avenue to get the money back. Most of the time people don't show up to the seizure hearing because they can't prove the money is legit.

I used to make frequent trips to NC for two years to pickup parts/engines/etc and I'm pretty-sure I know exactly where this is happening on I-40. There's Tahoes that sit in the median with spotlights aimed at the license plates of oncoming cars. These Tahoes are solid black and have Police on the side with "DRUG ENFORCEMENT" underneath that. When they see an out-of-state plate, they will get behind the vehicle and run the plate. I'm only assuming it's to see the driver's criminal history. I'd be willing to bet that if some drug arrests popped-up, you'd be getting pulled-over. I know one of them had the spotlight pointed at the plate on my GMC truck, I wasn't speeding, just had it on cruise in the right lane, and he pulled onto the highway and followed me for a couple miles. I was somewhat nervous since all I had was a change of clothes and little else with me. I guess when he ran the tags and saw that ol' Matt Blansett was clean, he made a u-turn and went back to his fishing hole. If anyone else has been through TN on I-40, you've probably seen them, and I don't think I've ever gone by and not seen someone pulled-over.
