Regarding the kids forgetting their code. I've got a great idea to get around that. Why don't we embed a chip in their arm or put a number on their forehead. Just to make things go a little quicker. ;-) How does that sound?

I remember just paying money and going for food.

I was a dumb ass and had my phone number and address memorized in kindergarten. If I could do it, any kid could and if there has to be this accountability...do it.

When I was in school, we told them our last name and last 4 and they checked the box, took the money and you went on.

While I was in college 20+ years ago our social security number was our student ID and account number. BERGERD111

When I was in school you had a bar code on the back of your id that the lunch lady would scan, and if you forgot your id you had your student #. What happened to that system?

I am so thankful that I don't waste time and energy being as paranoid as a lot of you. I mean, what's the point, when the world is going to end in less than 3 months anyway?

LOL @ this thread. I went and had lunch with my Kindergarten son on Friday. His school has a system where each kid has a 4-digit PIN number they tell the lunch lady. I'm sure more than a few 5 y/o have trouble remembering it but even then the bottleneck was the actual serving line. The kids can get through the PIN entry portion faster than the lunch ladies can get the food on the tray. Speeding up the first step doesn't do anything to get the kids through the line faster, at least at my kid's school.

The parents should be outraged that the school district wasted their precious financial resources on this unnecessary and ineffective technology. If the privacy issue is that big of a deal, then pack the kid a lunch.

You multiply those few seconds it saves each kid by a few hundred, it saves quite a bit of time. They're looking at ways to save time to increase the student count is the way I see it.

I was wrong. They get 23min for lunch. I agree as far as work is concerned, but for school, part of growing up is socializing.

In all seriousness, you do need to be more paranoid.

Although, all this crap is a slippery slope that we're already sliding down at nearly full speed. A lot of "Americans" or "voters" are from places where life down right sucks. They have no issues with giving up things that we've been used to because it's still 1000x better than where they are from.

However, they also don't have any grasp on what America is really supposed to be about.

I guess this is just another example of "the Federal government protecting the people."

That's assuming the kindergarten kid remembers his number every time and someone doesn't have to look it up. I don't see thee issue here, and it certainly isn't a "they're collecting data" one. My kid has an account at school. I can log on and see what he eats whenever I want. When it's empty, it dings my CC for $25 at a time. If the school wanted to use the money for the system, then so be it if they budgeted for it. This eliminates time looking up numbers and also fraud in the case of someone using another kid's number to buy their own lunch.

And what's the deal with only 13 minutes for lunch? I think we should do that at our jobs too. We'd see how long that would last.
