    13 minutes? Wtf we had 30 + 2 5 minute intermissions.

I don't see anything wrong with this.

Hacker stealing lunch money? Wtf.. Most of the time there is no money on the accounts, just debts the kid/parent owes. If there is money it is generally very little, why would someone take the time to get into system to steal 20-50$ at the most?

This also protects the parents/kids money from other kids getting the others account number and charging lunches. Which happens a lot.

You people getting upset over this need to step back and see it for what it is, your child's fingerprints have already been taken. Mine were taken when I was in the 1st grade, was some identification in case we ever went missing. They had police officers taking our prints. Big ass deal.

Excellent point. They will spend a trillion of our dollars so they can claim to have created new jobs.

In that case, let's go ahead and give them one more tool.

Guess they need to put hand scanners on the trash cans to see if they ate the entire lunch or took atleast a bite of a veggie.

The govt already has access to your childs school info anyways, they do roll call every day. So now they scan a hand for a freaking lunch and parents freaking out. The ones throwing a fit are the ones that can probably afford to pay for school lunches yet signed up for the assistance for the free/pay like 50cents for a lunch instead paying the few dollar like every other kid has too.

Parents should be more worried about what the child is doing with that smart phone, on facebook, etc...
The govt is setting up new systems every day to make it easier for them to track our every move. This is just another piece they will use to tell us how to live our lives. They are already trying to tell us what our kids can and cannot eat and forcing their will upon the parents. There are already many stories about that in the news.

So what if I am paranoid. I am that way for a reason. Do you not see where our country is heading?

Yes, it's a biometric device....how does that save time? It only takes a fraction of a second to type in an ID number. It's just an excuse to waste taxpayer money and buy a cool new toy.

Here's the thing. Most kids don't pay cash daily. They have their credits on account. They type in the kid's student ID, and their meal is debited from the account. Scanning a palm is no faster than having the lunch attendant type in a 5 or 6 digit student ID or looking up the student by last name. It's bullshit technology and a waste of $300k.

Hell my jr high school the lunch system you used debit style cards that parents could load money onto. The govt already knows what they want about your child as its in a govt public school. Give your kid cash to buy a dime bag or pack em a sack lunch.

I've seen kids in the area with highschool Ids around the neck with chips in them with students info.

It's pretty simple however, don't want your kids hand scanned pack them a sack lunch or put them in a private or home school not a PUBLIC school.

I do agree technology can be a bit much and there is many good and bad sides to it. I really dislike this edmundo thing kids use. It's like Facebook but teachers use it as a tool to help with homework and fellow class mates can talk and help each other with homework. It requires a log in from the teacher for parents to supervise.
Which works right up until the school decides your sack lunch isn't good enough and takes it away and forces your kid to go through the line. Which has happened with Chewie's school lunch mandates

Know the difference between a debit card and your kid's fingerprints being taken?

I'm not afraid of my kids having a hand scan. If someone wants a person or child's info they will get it regardless of a hand scan or from the Internet etc.

There is more going on in schools that need to be adressed than scanning hands for lunches.
