    2. There are A LOT of schools in the area with armed police. If any of you have been to them, you'd most likely agree they'd be worthless against a determined killer. Most of them I see, seem real good at talking down to the student population and would probably shit themselves against a person pulling the trigger.

    3. I strongly agree with severe/nasty punishments for these sort of things. That WOULD be a good step towards determent.
    I agree with 1.

    2. The first person they would kill is the armed cop. Fear of the unknown is a great deterrent. How about 10% of every school's faculty have a chl. Could be the principle, or the cafeteria lady.

    3. Do you think these people care about punishment? They go there to die.

I think certain qualified people in the school need to CONCEAL carry. The teachers and staff need to take more than a standard CHL course to be qualified to have a weapon in the school. The students will not know which teachers have the weapons but they will be there. Also, metal detectors are a great idea and I like the way the state fair handles their entrances. Everyone has to walk past metal detectors and the teachers have a special chl entrance.

Anyone over the age of 21 and working at a public property is required to carry a gun. So the people in that administration office could of got off a couple of shots at the guy before he went into that classroom.

I think a really good first step is allowing the principal and/or adminsitration officials at the school to have access to a gun that is kept in a secure location. That along with a policy that it only comes out when there is an active shooter on campus. Not a threat, but someone with a gun.

Get over yourself thinking you have all the right answers and no one else can bring ideas to the table.

edit:What does my screen name have to do with wanting security in schools? That has nothing to do with freedom. You would spend money on mental illness screening which would cost way more than more security for schools.

There is no way any decent (that doesn't hinder my rights) legislation will ever get passed nationally. Good stuff said in here, so I wont repeat anything. It is just crazy how all this happens in zones that say you can't have guns. Jesus can't they read fucking signs???

I know that many schools have an officer already so I don't see a problem with it.

I did talk to the head of security, who is now the head of Ross Perots personal security when he was there, and his comment to me was, 'its against company policy is my official stance, but in a case where you could chose to lose you job or life, for me that's a simple choice. Just don't ever tell me your decision to carry here.'
