I'm surprised the site wasn't built up at all. Someone empties a cooler and it'll look like the Phuket tsunami.

I thought it was pretty level land, as they started doing dirt work I realized it wasn't. I don't think they wanted to build the pad up any higher than what they did because the back of the house already had about a two and a half foot drop off. I will be grading the front yard of the house down quite a bit in the next few weeks.

I thought so too. It was around 8in for porches and 10 on the actual house. Everywhere I read that is exactly what they call for in east Texas especially on sandy loam. Footinga were deep, not sure exactly hpw deep.

Total square ft average is cheap, I am having to do some labor in the process. It is under $40 for entire house, average is skewed too because I have over 1500 sq ft of outside living area with porches and carport.

Not hating on your set up, bu I've never understood why so many people who build home build a big square. Whats the fp look like?

square houses are soooooo much cheaper to build. When rooflines get complicated, construction costs skyrocket. You can get way more square footage for the same price. Curved walls are expensive. There are many ways to dress up a square house though.

It's cheaper, getting a hell of a deal on it. Mine is more of a rectangle, my dimensions on concrete were 53x80.

This is the only pic of the floor plan I have handy. We added a 1/2 bath in our game room for guests though.
