When I build next year, our house pad will be similar. Its all sandy loam until 14' down. The geotech engineer recommended slab on grade with a post tensioned slab. He specifucally said for no peirs to be used

Good. There's at least a few days of work left.

All the cable, Poly, etc are going down tomorrow and prob Saturday. The grade is fine, I am still going to do a little dirt work in the front yard. Soil is a sandy loam,no Clay to be had until deep. The crew still has 3 work days before pouring, I know they have a lot to do before then.

Where's the steel, cables, footings, plastic, and trenches? That pad looks real low to me. I'm guessing they shot plenty of grades around there and there's absolutely no chance of standing water? Is that slab engineered by someone who has a stamp?

it all depends on your soil. Most people here are used to heavy clay soils where you need deep footings or peirs (3-6' deep) to keep the foundation from shifting. If you have a very sandy soil or low clay content like up north, you can lay a traditional slab right on top of the dirt without deep footings.

Did you have a soil sample done?

foundation and wood would be my 2 important things if I ever custom built a house. I want that thing to last for generations not crack in half after 50 years.

That's it? That looks like it's going to be a really thin foundation. When my house in TX was built, it was dug down much, much deeper.

Congrats. The only thing I'd change is move the position of the house 10ft to the left and angle it 3 degrees to the right.
