I was talking to a buddy of mine about the vinyl flooring that I plan on installing and he told me that if it is anything like the vinyl flooring he put down a few years back not to. He said about 5 years ago he installed some of those square vinyl tiles that are peel and stick. He spaced them and used grout to look like real tile floors. In the pics he showed me they looked just like real tile but he said they do not hold up well over the years. The first year or two they looked great and everyone thought they were real tile but now some of the finish has came off on certain spots. Said the scratch pretty easy as well. He's in the process of ripping them all out and going with something different. Do you guys think these vinyl floor planks will have the same issues years down the road?

I am "in process" of pulling up the hardwood floors our dogs nails have destroyed. I too was looking at the cheap vinyl plank flooring I saw at lowes. I have reconsidered as I imagine its like walking on concrete since no padding or anything. I mean it still in the running because of the durability with a pitbull, an almost 10yr old, and I running around the house. i'd love to see pics of your homeboys floor though.Originally posted by Mike69 View PostI was talking to a buddy of mine about the vinyl flooring that I plan on installing and he told me that if it is anything like the vinyl flooring he put down a few years back not to. We put a ton of tile in the house we remodeled when i was a teen, and since it was pier and beam, we had to put concrete backing board down before the tile. I guess the floor cant move if you have a solid tile surface above it or the tile and grout will crack.Originally posted by kingjason View PostOr pier and beam houses. These are a far cry from the peel and stick vinyl and should not even be considered as a comparison.. Ours have been in for 5 years now, without issue. That's not to say they will never have issues, but no finish has come off, deep scratches and scrapes can actually be repaired with heat and massage, and besides, they have a lifetime warranty on residential use.Originally posted by Mike69 View PostI was talking to a buddy of mine about the vinyl flooring that I plan on installing and he told me that if it is anything like the vinyl flooring he put down a few years back not to. Even if you have to replace specific planks or areas, this stuff is not attached to the ground. Just like laminate flooring you can take it up and put it back down. Your buddy is going to have a hell of a time with that adhesive. I have pulled that shit up before, and it sucks.
In fact, we had that stuff in our kitchen, and the beauty of the planks is that we didn't even have to take it up. The new flooring when in right over it.

Ours is right on our slab, and yes, it's pretty hard. No getting around that as the product is very dense. That said, we have 3 dogs and two cats, including a 90lb lab, and have seen no issues with durability in the last 5 years. We have also dog sat for a number of different type of dogs.Originally posted by ELVIS View PostI am "in process" of pulling up the hardwood floors our dogs nails have destroyed. Again, this is nothing like the peel and stick that his buddy has. I have laid and pulled that stuff before, and it's crap in comparison. Do not put that garbage in your house.Last edited by Chili; 07-29-2016, 08:56 AM.

Snap together, but I have had the self adhesive. I made the mistake of putting it in one of our bathrooms before I did the planks (intended as a temp solution to get rid of the carpet that was in there) and regretted it fairly soon afterwards. I pulled that stuff up when we did the planks and it was a nightmare even though it had only been down a couple of years. Ended up having to use a chemical stripper to get all of the adhesive off of the slab.Originally posted by ELVIS View Postcraig, yall have the self adhesive vinyl planks? or the snap together stuff?
god bless.
We had the same stuff in our kitchen when I bought the house, so after the bathroom experience, I laid the new planks right over the stick on in the kitchen.

gotcha!!
and I was gonna just sand and restain but then realized with my OCD I would prolly have to do it every weekend. because when the doorbell rings the dog goes apeshit and that's what messed up the floor. (well that and us chasing him around the house with r/c cars)

Haha, I get it. Do you have area rugs? I know ours tend to run only in our den as we put carpet in there, mostly for them. They get absolutely no traction in the rest of the house. lolOriginally posted by ELVIS View Postgotcha!!

^ Looks good man. I finally got around to starting on my first room. Ripped up the carpet, padding and tack strips. I have cement sud floors so how is the best way to check if they are level before putting down the new floors?

These are the 2 colors we were debating about but looks like we will be going with the darker drown for all 3 bedrooms. This room isn't that big. About 130 sq/ft.
