I've never been to KOH but I'm considering going next year. Anything I need to bring you recommend?
Did I mention I like guns too? haha

KOH - man, where to start...I've been the last 2 years, 1st year was with a friends 5th wheel, last year we rented a motorhome. logisitics can be a pain when you have 5-6 rigs, 8-10 guys, plus sleeping arrangements....

    Things to bring:

GOGGLES! - when the winds pick up, its very dusty! you will wear them around camp even...and of course, the dirt gets EVERYWHERE.

as tribaltalon mentioned - it can get cold at night....temps can range from 80's and sunny to 20's or 30's at night..pack accordingly. I have pics of me wheelin in my carhartt and others in t shirts....

Regarding the other items you need to bring:

Its probably 45 minutes each way from the lakebed to town (yucca valley). There is a gas station in Landers that has some basics, but to get anything major (restaurant, auto parts, etc) you need to goto yucca...and are required by LAW to bring back fastfood and ice for everyone in your group lol.

We tried to just stay all week...brought a grille that was expendable and bought a freezer off CL that we loaded with ice and frozen food, had 80 gallon fuel cell for generators, rigs, etc. bought firewood from one of the locals that rolls thru and basically tried to be self sufficient for the week.

Bring trashbags...its CA and the greenie nazis will be on ya..."pack it out"...basically and tie it up...with the strong winds the trash can get tossed around pretty bad...

Keep your stuff locked up and secure as best you can. Its not the wheelers you need to worry about as much as it is the locals...

I am probably forgetting 100 different things, but those are the highlights..

and if you havent mapped it...its 24 hrs door to door from DFW...

I've had similar thoughts in regards to spending money on the motor. I would like to do a 4bt in one. However, in the end I will most likely stick with this motor.

Thanks POSYj, it isn't anywhere near done but its getting there.

50cj, if you're thinking about going to KOH you need to go. It may be the last event at the hammers as the marines at 29 palms want to turn Johnson valley into a bomb range. Bring lots of beer and most importantly WARM clothes it can drop down into the teens, remember this is in Feb!!

I think the flashpaq helped but it wasn't a HUGE diff.

Mines a rubicon so it crawls nice in 4lo with the 4:1 case. I might do the rubicrawler eventually, I do miss dual cases.

I'm not gonna spend a fucking dime on the motor, when its paid off I'm putting a lsx in.

I will say that the 4.0 would feel like it fell off past 3,700 rpms as compared to the v6 feels like it has more once you overcome the shitty exhaust. If you get a chance, pop the hood on one prior to 2012. I believe that's when the new motor came out. I haven't looked at one of those yet.

Look at the driver's side manifold in particular. I can't fathom how an engineer could have thought that would flow good.

I have thought long and hard about making my own, but I just don't have the time to do it right now. Even a set of shorties would be better than the stockers by leaps and bounds.

You can literally hear the exhaust pulses colliding in the manifold. I thought our brand new Jeep had detonation issues and exhaust leaks when we first got it.

My ultimate plan is to run the flowmaster hushpower muffler with the RIPP LT's, y-pipe, and resonator for the exhaust, accompanied by a custom tune to get the throttle response, shifting, and all the other tiny kinks out of the system.

This motor makes a surprising amount of torque for what it is. With the headers and whatnot I posted before the torque curve moves lower in the RPM's quite a bit and picks up 40-ish horsepower.

It will wheel okay with stock tires with what it has, but would be a burden on the drivetrain with larger than stock tires.

The combination of drive by wire, no guts, and this auto transmission really leave a lot to be desired for me. However, we got this thing CHEAP, so a few well thought out mods will have us (me) wheeling happily.

I've been trying to talk myself into the RIPP longtubes, y-pipe, and tuner to remedy these poorly designed manifolds and restrictive exhaust, but that's a chunk of change for headers. However, all the other LT's look like shit in my opinion of design.
